Gauging Speed at Goodwood Festival of Speed

The Caerbont Automotive Instruments (CAI) stand 137, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed (12th to 15th July 2018), will feature gauges and senders for classic cars, motorcycles and specialist marine applications.

"The Goodwood Festival of Speed is always a fantastic celebration of our SMITHS history, whilst also giving us the opportunity to show new developments," said Gavin Roberts, CAI's Managing Director.

CAI will be launching a new speedometer for the Series 1 Land Rover at the show.  The new instrument complements the existing range of gauges for classic Land Rovers including speedometers, tachometers, fuel gauges, and coolant temperature gauges, for the Series 2, Land Rovers built between 1989-99, pre-1999 Defenders, and Model Year 1999.

Additional instrumentation being showcased at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, includes SMITHS classic gauges for the:

• MG and MGB sports cars;
• Jaguar cars such as the E-Type and XK series;
• Aston Martin cars including the DB4GT and DB5;
• Classic Mini including magnolia gauges;
• Gauges for classic motorcycles;

CAI also design and manufacture gauges for aviation applications and recently supplied Chimera Aviation for their Dragon AutoGyro.  "The diversity of visitors at the Goodwood Festival of Speed never ceases to amaze us and we first met the Chimera Aviation team at last year's event," explained Gavin.

Classic Cars Under The Hammer

At this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed are a number of classic cars under the hammer that feature original SMITHS instrumentation in their dashboards.  They include:

• The Aston Martin DB5 driven by Pierce Brosnan in the James Bond movie, Goldeneye;
• 1961 Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato Grand Touring Two-Seater Coupe;
• 1955 Austin-Healey 100S Sports Racing Two-Seater;
