Electric Čezeta Scooter Features SMITHS Gauges
In 2017, Čezeta's Motors s.r.o. began production of the electric Čezeta Type 506 scooter with an aim of becoming 'the world's most desirable scooter'. The new design respected the scooter's amazing heritage, maintaining the unique 2 meter length. However, this was now environmentally friendly, being powered by a specially designed battery. Čezeta announced the new scooter as the 'rebirth of an icon'. CAI was asked to design a SMITHS style speedometer and battery charge gauge for the new scooter.
The Čezeta Scooter was first manufactured in 1957 by Česká Zbrojovka Strakonice. Between 1957 and 1964, three different models were built: the types 501, 502 and 505. The unusual length (2 metres) of the Čezeta Scooter immediately made it popular for comfortably accommodating two people. Also, the unusual length created extra luggage space. The scooter also had an unusually long nose section which housed the fuel tank.
Re-imagining the Čezeta Scooter was the idea of Neil Eamonn Smith. The new Čezeta stays very true to the original iconic design. In the 1950s, the design of the Čezeta was described as 'space age' with excellent aerodynamics. The new 506 continues that design legacy. The 11kW custom hub motor delivers the torque of a sports bike making the 506 amongst the fastest scooters in the world. A giant 6kWh Panasonic® Lithium battery pack gives a world's best range for an electric scooter. The powerful 1.8kW universal charger (110V-240V) allows a quick top up anywhere there is a household socket.
There is a wonderful attention to detail on the 506. The instrumentation is simple, yet classy. The SMITHS speedometer is mounted to the left of the central handlebar column and a smaller battery charge gauge is to the right. Both gauges have the Čezeta logo mounted on a black face. The numbers and text are in classic white with an orange needle. The instruments are finished with chromed bezels.
In the Summer of 2018, the company completed one of the Czech Republic's most successful crowdfunding campaigns, raising 15m Czech Crowns (approx 600,000 euro) in just 10 days. These funds will finance an increase in production to 300 Čezeta Type 506 Scooters in 2019.
