| Installation
and Operating Instructions
Switch off power or disconnect the battery cable
prior to installation. Use on negative earth
vehicles only. The SMITHS
MotorSport range
of tachometers are available in 80 and 100mm
diameter case sizes, comprising :-
"ProSport Plus" - tachometer & max
engine rev recall
"ProSport F1" - tachometer, recall &
shift LEDs.
INSTALLATION:
To fit the tacho, either an 80mm or 100mm clearance
hole is required, dependant on the model
purchased. For all tacho variants, a suitable
location must be selected to fit the programming
switches and their labels. 2 holes 6.35mm
(1/4") dia are required in a flat area large
enough for the legend labels. Ensure orientation
of toggle switch is correct (see diagram).
The harness is provided with 5 free end wires to
connect to your vehicle as below:
- GREEN - Connect to switched positive
12 volt supply
- BLACK - Connect to ground.
- RED / WHITE - Connect to dash lamp
power.
Sender unit connection options:-
- WHITE / BLACK - Connect to switched
side of ignition coil of contact breaker
ignition system.
- RED / BLUE Connect to ecu or
electronic ignition tacho signal.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS:
- Set the number of engine cylinders.
For conventional ignition systems, 1 coil
and 1 distributor:-
With the ignition switched off, press and
hold the menu / select button. Keeping the
button pressed, switch on the ignition.
Release the button and the pointer will move
to the factory setting of 4 cylinders. Each
press and release of the menu / select button
will increment the pointer by 1000 RPM (or 1
cylinder) , up to 12 cylinders. When the
number of cylinders exceed full scale then the
pointer will move backwards with each minor
chaplet representing a 1 cylinder increment.
If 12 cylinders are exceeded, then the
sequence will restart at 1 cylinder
(1000 rpm).
For 4 cylinder lost spark ignition
systems:-
These systems have two double ended coils
and no distributor. Connect the white and
black lead of the tacho to one coil only. The
setting will need to be halved, therefore set
at 2000(2) not 4000(4), in this case.
When the pointer is at the correct cylinder
number, press the toggle switch to the set
/ adjust position to store the set-up and
return the tacho to normal operation.
For other ignition systems you can contact our
technical support team at technical@caigauge.com
- Shift LED threshold setting (F1)
Each shift LED is independently adjustable
between the limits of the non-crushed scale.
To alter the settings at any time (engine
running or not), press and release the menu /
select button once. The green LED will
illuminate first and the pointer move to the
current green threshold setting. To raise the
threshold, press the set/ adjust toggle
switch. Either hold down to slowly increase,
or press and release to move in tiny steps.
The setting will cycle back to the minimum
when the maximum is exceeded.
To adjust the amber LED, again press
menu/select and this time just the amber LED
will illuminate with the pointer indicating the
amber LED setting. Adjustment is the same as
for the green LED.
Press the menu / select button once again to
similarly adjust the red LED. After setting
each value, store by pressing menu / select
button twice to return to normal operation (or
once to go to intensity setting).
- Shift LED light intensity setting. (F1)
Following the shift LED settings, the next
press (4th) of the menu / select button will
illuminate all three of the LEDs. The
intensity of all LEDs is increased by pressing
the set / adjust toggle switch. The intensity
will cycle from maximum back to minimum if you
go too far.
The final press of the menu / select button
will store the last setting and return the
tacho to normal operation.
- Recall max engine speed (Prosport Plus
and F1)
Just press RECALL. The pointer will
move to the previous maximum revs. This value
will not be lost if the ignition is switched
off.
- Recall Reset (Prosport Plus and F1)
Press RECALL three times to clear the
previous maximum revs. After each press of the
recall toggle switch, wait for the pointer to
indicate maximum revs before repressing the
recall toggle switch.
If recall has been pressed twice and then the
previous maximum is exceeded, three more
presses will be required to reset. If ignition
is switched off at any time, then after
switching back on, three more recalls will be
required to reset.
